Viva Vancouver! On millennium summer I stayed with cousins at the cozy flat on the 4^th and 6^th Avenue, in June 2024 from Helsinki stopover in München, stay overnight in Montreal and finally arrive YVR, I find both excitement yet nostalgia to commute in the wagon of the sky train and breathe freeze at Kitsilano Beach. 

Named after the British Explorer Royal Navy Officer George Vancouver, Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada, holding the snow-capped volcano, Pacific coastlines, deep rapids and beautiful islands, the taste of air in Vancouver delivers a mixed sense of Japanese cherries and Canadian maples. Though my check-in luggage is still detained in Germany on 28^th June, nevertheless, extra shopping opportunity is an alternative way to celebrate upcoming Canada Day! 

Originally called Dominion Day, it celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867, when the three separate colonies of the United Canadas, inclusive of Ontario plus Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were united into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada. Renamed in 1982, Canada Day is now a federal statutory holiday. On Canada Day, citizens are wearing maple logo shirts, decorate blanc or red makeups or tattoos, reuniting with beloved family and friends.

On the 1^st of July 2024, we girls are very ready head toward to the Granville Island, where the farmer’s markets, organic products, delicious bites and live performances continuing whole day long. VALENTINO V logo calfskin slippers are the best to explore the Granville Island during the summer season, for not to have too dark side of outfits, I wrap around DIOR 100% silk twilly in bright orange tone, and of course they will definitely match my surprise bargain, the red and blanc fan with capitol alphabets CANADA, at One Dollar store, in the neighbourhood of the 7^th Avenue.

Cuisine Crush Tartu! French Crêpe and Chicken Salad at Kohvik Crepp

As Tartu is home to the most renowned campus of Estonia, University of Tartu, founded in 1632, the energetic and vivid neighbourhood hosting the affordable and delicious cuisine, definitely the destination we have to reach out during the midsummer trip. 

Located in the heart of Old Town in vintage interior design, KOHVIK CREPP is known for French-inspired dishes with cozy atmosphere, extremely popular among the locals, the undergraduates and the researchers. The menu features delicious warm salads, classic crêpes and Breton galettes, and excellent lists in both alcohol and soda drinks. 

Though I am gluten allergy free, still, the savoy galette in batter made from buckwheat flour omitting the sugar is always the best choice. No doubt I am a huge fan of crêpe, while I would like to give les galettes a chance in Tartu.

My brunch order is Le Galette with roasted chicken, fresh tomatoes and blue cheese, garnished a handful amount of raw lettuce salad atop. The Ratatouille galettes take inspiration from the classic French dish, ratatouille, which are thinly sliced and layered over a bed of ricotta or goat cheese, often seasoned with garlic, herbs de Provence and olive oil. The vegetables are arranged in a visually appealing pattern, and the edges of the dough are folded over to create a rustic border. Together with crispy while lukewarm batter, le galette full of rich summer flavour. 

As Tartu is designated as the European Capital of Culture in 2024, therefore, there are quite several restaurants or bars providing the limited drinks to celebrate the vibe of the city. We select from the craft soft drinks, and the waiter introduced the Setomaa rhubarb soda, which is made with Rhubarb, for the drink with pinkish hue. 

Rhubarb is the fleshy, edible stalks petioles of species and hybrids of Rheum in the family Polygonaceae, which is herbaceous perennial that grows from short, thick rhizomes. Rhubarb is a vegetable but is often take the use to the same culinary ingredients as fruits. The leaf stalks can be used raw while they have a crisp texture, are most commonly cooked with sugar and used in pies, crumbles or other desserts. Since Rhubarb delivers a strong, tart taste, which makes our sparkling drinks more of a taste of fresh tonic water in a touch of strawberry odour. 

At the bill check, the receipt written “Enivrez-vous: Greetings from Charles Baudelaire’. Tartu and KOHVIK CREPP display a place where time stands still, offer the chance to savor the moment and create unforgettable memories, just as Baudelaire’s poèmes en prose.

Tere jaanipäev Tartu! Designated as the European Capital of Culture in 2024, it is adventurous to visit during the midsummer season. We hit the Baltic Sea by ECKERÖ LINE arriving Tallinn at 11:15, discovering that the noon shuttle bus tickets completely sold out, after enjoying light lunch in the neighbourhood of traditional market, eventually reach Tartu approximately after 17:00. 

Tartu the city is considered that derives from the word for aurochs, tarvas, archaeological evidence shows the first permanent settlement on the site of modern Tartu dating back to the 5th century. In medieval times, after the Livonian Order was subsumed into the Teutonic Knights in 1236, the city became an important trading site joined the Hanseatic League in 1280s. 

In the effect of the 1629 Truce of Altmark, Tartu became part of the Dominions of Sweden, which led to the foundation of the University of Tartu in 1632 by King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, until the city was taken by the Russian army in the presence of Tsar Peter the Great himself in 1704. 

During the late 19th century, Tartu was the cultural centre for Estonians in the era of Romantic nationalism. Since Estonia regained its independence in 1991, the old town centre and notably, St. John's Church, have been renovated, housing University of Tartu, Supreme Court of Estonia, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Estonian National Museum, Tartu now is regarded the ‘intellectual capital city’ of Estonia.

Happy Hanami Helsinki 2024! Organised annually by ROIHUVUORI and SCANDINAVIA JAPAN SASAKAWA FOUNDATION at Helsinki Roihuvuoren Kirsikkapuisto, Hanami Helsinki has been the must-visit cultural May Day picnic event with dear friends under the blossom cherry trees. 
 
We Taiwanese gang prepare the Japanese biscuits, the plum liquor, lemon and peach icetea, several boxes of raisins, a bag of Taffel potato chips, of course some mini milk puffs. Taking Bus No. 80 or 82 from Herttoniemi Metro station, we prepare our disposal blankets and luckily find the spot among the fallen cherry pedals and leaves. 

For the kawaii kimono of the day, KIMONO YUKATA MARKET offers vintage kimono made of 100% Japanese silk in traditional pattern, has been supporting my delectation of festivity collection. This pastel purple pinkish in Irotomesode色留袖, is a type of Tomesode, which is a kimono characterized by its shorter sleeves, particularly at party or wedding occasions. Its elegant and graceful appearances with dyed techniques, adorned with crests/kamon紋章which determines its formality. 

May Day in Helsinki occasionally surprises us with the uncertain chilly breeze and slight drizzle, while the inner kimono and formal irotomesode layers constantly keep me genial and graceful under the uncertainty of Nordic temper. 

 

As for the Obi帯/おび, this vintage cotton and silk woven Maru obi丸帯, (one-piece obi) is the most formal type of women's obi, in length 450cm and width 35cm, weaving golden tone with traditional Japanese cranes pattern, embroidered with metal-coated yarn and foil works. Its formality is folded around a double lining, with its bulk and weight once were at their most popular during the Taishō and Meiji periods. Though Maru obi is rather difficult to tie by oneself, still quite successfully worked it out within 50 minutes, the graceful hue serves the pastel purple pinkish tone kimono perfectly well. 

Obi jime 帯締めare decorative kumihimo cords roughly 150cm tied around the obi and knotted at either the front or the back. Since obi jime can be both functional and decorative, these golden tone with purple geometrical square patterns are woven silk, with pinkish threads feature tassels at each end.

Hello Taipei! The must-have activity in Taiwan that the delicatessen and cuisine always come premium. 2024 Spring holidays provide consecutively yet another warm and comfortable week; there are fierce friends to chit chat, lovely beloved to cuddle around, and no doubt, the delicious food always makes my days.

Temporarily Located in Liaoning Street during the major building under reconstruction until 2028, the Cantonese brunch teatime cuisine in AMBASSADOR HOTEL TAIPEI  is highly recommended by MICHELIN. The refined Cantonese delights were seafood rice noodle rolls, deep-fried turnip cake, Hong Kong dim sum are freshly prepared by adopting traditional ingredients and methods. To add to our dining experience, pair the delicacies with a fine Taiwanese high mountain oolong tea. 

 

The history of the Cantonese teatime tradition can be traced back to the period of Xianfeng Emperor (Regin 1850-1861), who first referred to establishments serving tea as Yi Li Guan (一釐館1 cent house). These offered a place for people to gossip, which became known as teatime talk (茶話). Operated by a group of Spanish residing in Taiwan, a hidden gem in a passage of ANHE road, PS TAPAS provides the authentic sangria, paella and churros! 

PAELLA de MARISCO originated from eastern coast of Spain, Valencia. Carefully selected local black rice to increase the strong effect in absorbing soup, for its structure remains after stewing. The seafood broth is simmered over a slow fire with a large amount of shrimps, crabs, and anchovies, paired with a super concentrated seafood squid sauce, fresh mussels, sea bass, smoked red peppers and saffron, make sure to squeeze all the essence into every grain of rice! Finally, scrape the plate and eat the crispy rice crust is the Mediterranean cultural output! 

For the desserts, CHURROS con CHOCOLATE with spicy rum chocolate sauce tantalize our taste buds, muy bien!! 

The crispy churros are handmade by kneading the dough for 1,800 seconds in boiling water to ensure the texture is perfect. The richness of rum is combined with the spiciness of dried chili peppers, and the embellishment of cinnamon turns into a smoky fuel, a multiple layer of flavors to tease after hot meals.

台南妳好！猶記小時候過年至爺爺奶奶台南眷村老舍，總會經過陰森詭異的嚇破膽墓地（我都會隨便抓一件毛衣遮擋視線）、一望無盡的方塊水田、還有古色古香的延平郡王祠。台南市區甚少走走逛逛，只記得母親的中學好友在市中心開了二層樓書店，我們就可以邊享受冷氣邊挑選一本東方出版社發行的亞森羅蘋偵探小說當紀念。

In April 2024, with the warmest invitation from the dear cousins, we take the TAIWAN RAILWAYS from Kaohsiung to Tainan for this unspeakable exciting long-time-no-see-nostalgia one day trip.

 

We have our meeting at Tainan Railway Station and share the palatable brunch together before Jasmine heading for her afternoon shift. The temperature of Tainan in April could reach up to 30’c, considering the walking tour without relying on bicycle or Uber, the abundant street snacks and drinks are very much needed. 

We shopped the cute souvenirs and enjoyed a bowl of bubble ice sherbet at historical HAYASHI DEPARTMENT STORE台南林百貨, which, equipped with a shrine, originally opened for public on 5 December 1932 during the Japanese Colonisation. Upon completion, the building was with state-of-the-art features of elevators, while unfortunately the brick façade was bombed by the US air force at the end of World War II. After refurbishment since 2006, this five-story department store was finally reopened on 14 June 2014. There lays a delicate courtyard, a cute podium and an artsy snack bar atop, performs the perfect area to appreciate and have the photoshoot for fashion fun. 

The outfits of the Day at Hayashi courtyard are INTIMISSIMI 100% silk royal blue camisole and trousers, which purchased separately from Vienna and Venezia stores. CHANEL bijoux and le sac in silver are already my daily essentials during the shopping day, beloved reunion or brunch time; they perform either chic or cute elements to enhance the fun of outwear. 

In order not to expose too much of bare shoulders nor catch the rather chilly breeze during the train trip, CHLOÉ 100% wool cardigan in tulip red can be worn or draped on the shoulders; together with Woody slides in 100% cotton embroidered the logo text at Blush Beige colour tone complete the whole look of Tainan one day trip.

Le Printemps is calling for the le thé de haute! Let’s try the happy hour of afternoon teatime mix and match with Belgian waffles, French tartelettes, Japanese snacks together with Spanish tea. 

 

For the selection of tea set, Lomonosov Daisy Collection teacups set with design pattern in intersecting lines of 22 karat gold accents, inverted African daisies carrying the hues of royal purple and cobalt blue. Spotted the teacup pair with extra two tea saucers at price of 14 euros, later completed the set with a sugar kettle by revisiting Helsinki Secondhand on the first of May 2020. This great hunt confirms my appreciation of Lomonosov ceramics from the era of USSR period 1922-1991, with the backstamps of each masterpiece is either in cobalt blue or orange crimson LFZ monogram, stamped “Made in USSR” in red. 

Lomonosov is a producer of hand-painted ceramics based in Saint Petersburg. Also known as The Imperial Porcelain Factory, established by Dmitry Ivanovich Vinogradov in 1744 and supported by the Russian tsars since Empress Elizabeth. In 1925, in the occasion of the 200th jubilee of the Russian Academy of Science, IPF was given the name of the academy’s founder, Mikhail Lomonosov, which became recognized as Leningrad Lomonosov Porcelain Factory. 

  

For the history of Spanish Tea CARMENCITA, the founder couple Jesús Navarro Jover and his wife Carmen Valero were inspired their native Novelda, the saffron, were exported to Asia and Africa. In the 1935’s, Jesús Navarro Jover ventured to the Canary Islands and forged the family brand into the international provider of tea leaves and Spanish spices, CARMENCITA.

Magazine Madness ELLE USA: Penélope Cruz es la Madre Original

Alongside with Adam Driver at Michael Mann’s FERRARI, this is not Penélope Cruz’s debut to portrait a biographical figure, and certainly not her premiere “homage to a woman in a difficult situation”, still, Cruz felt the weight of “giving Laura Ferrari a public voice for the first time”, she arrives on screen bereaved, already grieving the loss of her never recover from. Relatively Laura is subdued for Cruz’s characters she has been through, while the sorrow reflected on getting dressed in every scene, making this film as a photonegative of Cruz’s works with Pedro Almodóvar, that built on primary colours.

Having been a fan of Penélope Cruz since Pedro Almodóvar’s Todo Sobre Mi Madre, it’s a great loss of her absence at FERRARI premiere of the 80^th Venice Film Festival. While having my holiday in Taiwan, uncontrollably, I supported an overpriced ELLE USA (420 TWD), merely in order to collect another glimpses on the fragile yet elegant of Los Abrazos Rotos.

Happy Chinese New Year! My greatest gratitude to the CHINA AIRLINES cabin crew that though the last-minute yet the warmest invitation makes the weekend holidays rock and roll in Venice of the North---Amsterdam!

Its 188x33 cm size is easy to wrap around the neck and the shoulders or the lightweight touch is comfy to place on the taps as an instant blanket during the dining time, and the black wool fringes gives out the rather feminine touch, surely dexterously to balance the Calvin Klein baggy shape of Mom’s Fit.
