Beauty Boom Hiver! Le Parfum Cheveux N° 5 & Factory 5 Les Galets de Bain

5 Q&A in Helsinki

What’s the story of celebration of 100th Anniversary of CHANEL N° 5?

Based on the formula of Chanel N° 5, “a woman’s perfume, with a woman’s scent,” composed by Ernest Beaux with Gabrielle Chanel in 1921, in 2020 Christmas season, Chanel releases Parfum Cheveux N° 5 graces the holiday wishes. Housed in a transparent and frosted version of the iconic bottle, CHANEL LE PARFUM CHEVEUX N° 5 enriched with an active ingredient derived from rose and jasmine, diffuses the subtle notes of the fragrance and gives hair shining and silky textures. In 2021, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of this radical creation that revolutionised the beauty tradition of its era, CHANEL debuts FACTORY 5 COLLECTION, which inspired by daily essentials. Les Galets de Bain in Chanel L’EAU formula lay up inside a matted touch, off-white tea tin, is the brilliant beauty product design ever seen.

How do you adore the mix and match of CHANEL N° 5 & L’EAU?

Chanel le Parfum Cheveux N° 5 provides a sweet powdery rose and a light jasmine with perhaps some dry down of detectable vanilla and the slightest faintest traces of sandalwood. The result is a sharp, soapy scent with added elegance. It is not sweet at all. The iconic bottle comes in powdery pink and cannot be mistaken for the mature original Chanel N° 5. Since the main accords of L’EAU are Aldehyde, bergamot, Mandarin orange and lime, its woody, sweet and easy scents clung to my skin after shower or bath. Therefore, I like to and then mix and match L’EAU as my basic skin care, and several drops of this invigorating and refreshing N° 5mist at work or teatime with friends.

Is there any suggestion to mate and mingle CHANEL N° 5 & L’EAU?

Indeed. Both Chanel Parfum Cheveux N° 5 or Factory 5 L’EAU collection is perfect for spring and summer, though it lingers only 2-3 hours on hair and around 4-5 hours on skin per use; in addition, it’s a good try for wearing after putting on CHANEL CHANCE EAU TENDRE, which, owns the top notes as quince mingling with grapefruit, while middle notes mating hyacinth and jasmine, and base notes mixing musk, iris, Virginia cedar plus amber. Harmonise with the daytime fragrance as CHANEL N° 5 & L’EAU, the white floral and fresh spicy blend altogether harmoniously.

Tell us the inspirations of photography setting of CHANEL N° 5 & Factory 5 Collection.

As for photography and setting, the ideas behind the lenses, due to Chanel Le Parfum Cheveux N° 5 is the celebration edition of 100th anniversary for the release of classic N° 5, hence I place the refill tube TWIST & SPRAY of CHANEL N° 5 L’EAU and CHANEL CHANCE EAU TENDRE together, since I love to mix and match these fragrances, and the pink tone of Chanel CHANCE and balance jointly with the rather pale L’EAU collection. Alongside the powdery pinkish bottle of Le Parfum Cheveux, 2020-21 Christmas limited edition in various 5 camellias represent Mademoiselle Coco Chanel’s favourite symbolisms; furthermore, I decorate several rose pedals around the refill tube and pinkish bottle, to show that the basic component of CHANEL N° 5, Factory 5 and L’EAU beauty collection. For a long while I always collect the delicate designs of accessories and fashion jewelry for the practical function and photography tools— the silver padlock, the heart-shape earrings and CC logo SWAROSKI brooch—to assist the theme of dressing table and to fulfill the collector’s satisfaction. I select Les Galets de Bain, N° 5 L’EAU shower gel, lip balm, Le Gel Pailléte and CHANEL CHANCE EAU TENDRE TWIST & SPRAY to demonstrate 5 Chanel CC logo containers to echo the celebration of N° 5 100th anniversary.

The indoor photography always offers me a lot of fun, though it requires the ideas and time to place the tools and the precise shot, while the most difficult is to take the Factory 5 Les Galets de Bain at -10°c outdoors, especially the windy and snowy moments can switch the shooting at any second.

How do you like to soak yourself in a tub with Factory 5 Les Galets de Bain?

I always like to take a hot bath, start to dip the tablet and enjoy in tub, imagine widely or consider none, to relax myself, to consider it’s a luxurious meditation. Factory 5 Les Galets de Bain with 17g for single usage, turns the bath water milky white, and the smell wafted up to my nose in the most satisfying way. The tea tin also can be treated as yet another cute dressing table deco. After the long rest, applying hydra lip balm and one press of CHANEL LE PARFUM CHEVEUX N° 5 and ready for the bedtime medical horror novel reading are my winter routine. CHANEL N° 5 Factory collection can be described as breaking and moving, and yet still an artist and a muse.

CHANEL LE PARFUM CHEVEUX N° 5 and CHANEL Factory 5 and N° 5 L’EAU, all sing the N° 5 chanson, but just in different tones.

Fashion Fun Olavinlinna! Karl Lagerfeld Wool Coat, Gucci Monogram Wool Scarf & Chanel Tweed Winter Boots at Olavinlinna

November 20, 2021 at Olavinlinna, Finland

On my birthday I am always on the road. After the discovery of Hämeelinna at Autumn Festival, medieval castle trip is always inviting. Situated at Savonlinna, at latitude 61°, founded by Erik Axelsson Tott in 1475 under the name Sankt Olofsborg in an effort to profit from the political turmoil following Ivan III’s conquest of the NOVGOROD REPUBLIC, literally St. Olof’s Castle, Olavinlinna (Olofsborg in Swedish and Olafsburg in German) is the northernmost medieval stone fortress built on a rocky island, with triple tower castle, still standing nowadays. The castle forms a spectacular stage for Savonlinna Opera Festival since summer 1912. During the wintertime, Olavinlinna serves us an eastern Finland adventure wonderland—the keep, the bell tower, the church tower, Kijl’s tower, outer bailey, curtain walls and the century-old tree upright from the courtyard—Olavinlinna travels us back to the Game of Thrones saga era, history leaves many traces to learn from.

How to wear at -1°c Olavinlinna day trip with comfort and chic style? Karl Lagerfeld wool long coat consists of 71% wool, 26%polymaide and 3% mixed fabrics is not only reversible, but also giving both a classic Nordic noir look and funky KARL LAGERFELD scenario. Founded in 1984, under the designer’s namesake, Karl Lagerfeld’s individual designs was established with ‘intellectual sexiness’: the narrow silhouette and the outwardly tailored lines are the combination of classic style and street fun. Under the wool coat, CHAENL logo jumper with 54% wool and 46% cotton and 30% wool, 28% mohair, 38% nylon and 4% elastane cardigan from ACNE Studios are my winter essentials. Together in greyish tone, GUCCI monogram 70% wool and 30% mulberry silk scarf, which the 70 x 200 cm size is easy to wrap around the neck with freestyle layering manière, and mix and match incomparably with KARL LAGERFELD font layout.

For the rather long rocky road walk at Olavinlinna, first double the 20 dents socks from H&M, and then CHANEL tweed winter boots with thick exterior soles have been serving my feet the best interest, while the inner lambskin soles keep me in comfort and warmth during the minus Celsius drizzling day. ZARA Classic Mom Fit jeans are unrestrained to have long haul in train or massive footsteps at pebble roads, therefore, I have been collection during the winter season sale, and the greatest bargain can be only 7,95 EUR a pair.

As for accessories, CHOLÉ ivory acetate sunglasses and CHANEL SAC de SILVER always offer the convenience during day trip, due to the outfits at Olavinlinna today are black, grey and silver tone, CHANEL Rogue Allure #117 OR CUVRÉ gives an elegant burgundy touch, its moisturizing formula prevents the dehydration from the chilly, drizzling and slightly windy snowy Finnish winter day.

TOP TIP 1: Layering virgin wool cardigans and coat to adjust indoor and outdoor activities

TOP TIP 2: Tweed boots are warm and fashionable for the balance of the winter heavy outfits

Beauty Boom Birthday! DIOR BLOOMING BOUQUET EDP & LIP GLOW! J'ADIOR ADDICTIVE

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday! November performs the darkest moments at the time, while my seasonal fragrance routine, occasionally playing mix-and-match within two different scents, leads to the new discovery journey under the House of Dior.

At daytime work, I tend to spray fresh floral in order to work smart; for the night out, I prefer the intense spicy odor to outstand some exotic feels. Highly grateful to my Taiwanese gang, the birthday surprises reveal Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet in 50 ml, the 5 ml pinky miniature version, SAUVAGE 2ml, Dior Addictive Lip Glow and Lip Maximizer, perfectly fulfill my dreamy collection of Dior.

The original MISS DIOR BLOOMING BOUQUET Eau de Parfum was launched in 2014 under the nose of Perfumer Louise Turner. Top note is Sicilian Mandarin; middle notes are pink peony, Damask rose, apricot and peach, with a feminine dose provided by rose essence on a velvety base note of white musk. This romantic and fresh composition contains accords of inoffensiveness and classy. Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet is delight and official to wear at work, or at any dinner events. It is cute, girly, a friendship mood booster, and its gentle aura lasts for about 5 hours on my skin.

Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet takes the same soft-pink signature design, in both carbonated box and crystallized bottle, as its antecedents and is decorated with a silver ribbon. The outer carbonated box is filled with embossed hounds tooth patterns, echoes the bottom of the fragrance bottle. The bottle cap, in both 50ml and miniature version, are in sharpen-square-cut on a transparent effect with the monogram of CD atop, while the light, rosy and pinkish drops of eau de toilette reflects the shining rays of the crystallized fragrance bottle. No doubt Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet crystal bottle is yet another work of art, surely a lovely deco item on my make-up desk.

DIOR SAUVAGE was launched in 2018 under the nose of Perfumer François Demachy, with the top note in bergamot; middle notes disclosed with Sichuan pepper, lavender, star anise and nutmeg. Its base notes in Ambroxan and vanilla, add up a nice sweetness, a refined version of the original that is less spicy and harsh, mix-and match with Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet, lasts along around 10 hours, definitely suits for autumn dinner night or winter evening events.

DIOR ADDICTIVE LIP GLOW #000 presents new couture in half-transparent pinkish PVC case, lightens up the darkest moments of autumn season. Formulated with 97% natural-origin ingredients infused with cherry oil, that subtly revives my natural colour of hydrated lips over 10 hours, can be worn on as a lip balm or as a primer under lipstick. Together by applying a thin layer of Dior Addictive Lip Maximizer #001, without any reddish shade, my lips still own a custom glow.

On my beauty desk or on the road, together my new birthday gifts, I adore and often carry Dior J’adore Eau de Parfum in 2 ml tube, Dior Base-Serum Mascara 4 ml, Dior Prestige Texture Essential Cream 5 ml, Dior Capture Totale Anti-Age Cream 7ml, and Dior Apricot nail cream 10g. With the 2021 Christmas limited edition of gift bag designed by London-based artist Alice Shirley, the darkest moments of November is nevermore a feel of dismay or desperate.

Magazine Madness November 2021: Vogue British Adele, New Love, New Look, New Sound

VOGUE BRITISH November 2021

Hello, it’s Adele, we were wondering if after all these five years you’d like to reveal. At VOGUE British November 2021 issue, with journalist Giles Hattersley, it’s Adele’s first interview since 2016. Famously she doesn’t like being famous, Adele is once again ready to play havoc with the emotional wellbeing of a billion music fans; to deliver the latest chapter in the sonic revolutions of her self-reflection and self-redemption.

Formal pleasantries dispensed with, during the interview in New York, ADELE admits her heartbroken marriage and body shape change, chronically, following the titles of her Grammy winning platinum albums: Drunk as a fart at 21; sober as a new mom at 25; married and failed at age of 30; working out hard without relying any specific diets at 33….by reading Adele, we learn quickly that her sense of humour and candour go hand in hand. She confesses during the paragraphs that the timeline of the press having her marriage relationship is actually completely wrong, and the long-term fraught father-daughter family issue finally finds its peace at the beginning of 2021, after Mr. Adkins’ death from cancer. The whole interview documented during Adele is about to release her upcoming album while not yet finalise the title. Still, readers realise that there will be a seven-minute opus concludes the new album: A string-swirling, Garland-invoking, jazzy, campy, swooning, delight, packed with world-weary reflection, and featuring a strong vocal for the ages.

Raised up in London by a single mom who worked restoring furniture, Adele attended The Brit School, by 20, she was becoming a record-breaker with a clutch of multiple music awards, and by 25 an Oscar—007 theme song for Skyfall. At British VOGUE November 2021 issue, under the lens of photographer Steven Meisel, styling by VOGUE Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful, turning 18 page fashion and interview campaign, Adele portraits her curves and confidence by wearing wool mesh cape, macramé top, cotton mesh skirt by CHANEL, or shows her strong vibe by showing embellished silk-mix dress by Louis Vuitton, even reveals her soft feminine touch with teal shearing coat by BOTTEGA VENETA, completes with mauve purple of well-tailored nails.

As for photography, in order to contrast Adele’s cover shoot by wearing Vivienne Westwood’s mustard yellow dress, I select CHANEL le Vernis #8 Pirate and Rouge Allure #117 Or Cuivré due to their crimson hues. Accessories with golden plated or 18K materials perform the glamorous and glittering looks, therefore, CHANEL AW21 CC logo brooch and heart shape earrings resemble the theme of November issue, echo Adele’s record breaking and title winning status of Queen. Before my birthday week, I received a lovely bouquet from colleagues, with silver-shining Chanel fabric camellia, I ultimately enjoy a lot by supporting the paper publishing, sniffing every-page-turn, placing cute accessories collected around the globe, spending time to document my reading experience. Perhaps I own a truly expensive hobby, perhaps I am very old-schooled, or perhaps the way I record my lifestyle is less done nowadays, but as Adele addresses during the VOGUE interview, that “The road less travelled is a road best left behind” (254).

Accessories Accede: What’s in My CHANEL Le Sac du Jour?

Q&A Autumn Festival

Travelling by VR train from Helsinki to medieval castle Hämeenlinna, how do you decide to carry CHANEL Le Sac du Jour on your domestic tour?

Made in Spain with supple lambskin, CHANEL Le Sac du Jour was originally suitable for the uniform accessory, while its adjustable leather metallic braided strap allows to wear either shoulder-carry or waist-fancy. The length of 20 with width 13.5 plus thickness in 4.5 cm, the spacious interior design contains a hidden pocket, which is perfect to insert some tubes of eau de parfum and the carte’dauthenticité de sac; the front pocket is advisable to intercalate some alcohol cottons or daily sanitary pads, last but not the least, the exterior back leather pocket is perfect to interpose the Finnish museum card; hence, combining the light characteristics of lam skin and the practical function, CHANEL Le Sac du Jour is definitely joining the Hämeenlinna castle tour with me!

Tell us the care instructions of CHANEL lambskin leather sac?

In order to preserve the elegant line of Chanel lambskin sac, do not overfill; to minimize the colour bleeding, avoid the prolonged the direct contact with dark jeans, especially in tone indigo. Gently run in a circular motion by using a 100% soft cotton cloth if there is any liquid or marks left on the surface of le sac. Suggested from CHAENL care centre Le Meux, it is appropriate to spray le sac with the leather care products from COLLONIL. To reduce the unnecessary the dust or watermarks, avoid the direct sunlight and humidity, and wrap chains or straps with tissue paper, and storage le sac at upright at its original pouch.

✔ CHANEL camellia silver O-CASE from 2019 A/W collection is available to inset identification or credit cards, bank notes and jewelry due to its 100% cotton linen for anti-scratching protection. The grainy calfskin infused with camellia and interlock logo carvings and the silver metallic CC logo and zipper match with the Le Sac du Jour superlatively!

✔ My apartment key and CHANEL le volume stretch mascara #10 Noir are always with me at work or on the road.

✔ CHANEL Rouge Allure liquid Powder #956 Invincible retains the classic red, which is giving the lips an instant sexy touch by squeezing the tube, or cheeks a quick cute blush by applying the micro leftover amount after the lip service. With it’s rather creamy and matte formula, it does not provide the clean lineage of lip shape but more of natural and casual looks, more of suitable on the road rather at dinner banquet.

✔ CHANEL N°5 L’émulsion Corps in 20 ml travel size is one of the limited editions of CHANEL Factory 5, released in May 2021. Top notes of lemon, mandarin and orange are propelled skyward by aldehydes, followed by a profusion of rose melding airy jasmine with a fraction of ylang-ylang; vetiver and cedar impart a novel dynamism, accompanied by white musk as base notes, not only can be treated as hand cream, but also the facial moisturizer during the road trip.

✔ 3M dental floss is also my favourite daily essential to make the after meal time easier without carrying a toothbrush.

✔ Valentino VLTN calfskin leather bracelet shows highly very Rock ‘n’ Roll spirit, cool to wear it with leather jacket or sporty sweater.

✔ IPHONE 11 in poppy red no doubt rules the photography experience all.

✔ CHANEL Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye shadow palette #334 Modern Glamour comes in a variety of effects: matte, satiny, iridescent or metallic, which can be blended endlessly to define natural, intense, sophisticated or smoky eyes. Nevertheless I prefer to match 2 tones individually in contrast rather mix medium shades together: dark shadow intensifies my eye lines and light shade illuminates on eyelids to give a wide-open effect. With a portable black lacquered case with a large mirror, Les 4 Ombres collection has become my ultimate must-have during the sale hunt.

✔ CHANEL N°5 L’EAU eau de toilette and Coco Mademoiselle Eau Privée 2ml tube are my constant needy samples and amiable photography tools.

✔ CHAENL 2021 SS heart shape earrings, metallic lock, and silver 925 rings from childhood complete the theme of silver tone—from Le Sac du Jour to Camellia O-CASE, to match the rather sporty outfits at the day trip at medieval castle Hämeenlinna!

Fashion Fun Mid-Autumn! Chloé Wool Wear, Zara Zippy Jeans & VALENTINO Rock & Roll Le Bracelet & Chanel Le Sac at Medieval Castle Hämeenlinna

September Mid- Autumn 2021

The oldest inland city of Finland, the hometown of Jean Sibelius and the Holy Land of Rock & Roll, surrounded by 339 lakes and located on several hills, Hämeenlinna village settled since the Viking Age and the medieval castle was built around 1320’s. Taking VR train from Helsinki, it takes approximately one hour to arrive, the great memory of AC/DC concert from the outskirt of Hämeenlinna in 2015 appeals us to revisit at Mid-Autumn Festival, 2021.

In Latin called Tavastum or Croneburgum, Hämeenlinna castle consists of a central keep and surrounding curtain walls, enclosed by a moat. The keep originally had five turrets, while only two are apparent after restoration in 1988. The curtain wall has a gatehouse, battlements, an octagonal brick corner turret and a round gun turret. With the rebuilt work from the centuries, the base of Hämeenlinna is embedded on the uneven bedrock, the lower tiers of the keep and curtain wall are of masoned granite and the upper tiers are red brickwork. Considering the pebble roads to take on, a pair of comfy sneakers from MIU MIU is definitely must-have for my outfit of the day.

CHLOÉ 100% virgin wool sweater with sleeves in 91% silk, 8 % polyamide and 1% elastane, owns its lovely milky white colour; surprisingly the heavy weight keeps the rather chilly air away, at 5°c mid-autumn day, merely this single iconic wear can support my one-day trip chic and comfy. ZARA Mom Fit jeans have been my favourite since 2020,since the double-side slit pockets give the convenience, also the high-Rise cut shapes the silhouette slims, and the most important of all, that the tapered denim makes my movement super easy. The only worry of this mid-weight fabric is, that from the Bangladesh 100% cotton with non-stretchy material, after the full meal at Nepalese restaurant, I need to release the upper button for several-minute mini break.

As for accessories, in order to salute Rock & Roll sprit of 2015 AC/DC concert, VALENTINO VLTN off-white text bracelet in black calfskin is perfect together with CHANEL quilted lambskin Le Sac in silver hardware, in order to stay coherence with MIU MIU black lambskin sneakers with silver pointed toe shape.  At day tour in Hämeenlinna, Chanel Le Sac is spacious to carry IPHONE, keys, alcohol cotton swipes and travel size skincare daily essentials, and its stripe is convenient to style either a shoulder carry-on or a fanny pack. Last but not the least, CHLOÉ ivory acetate sunglasses always support as my best travel mate during the fashion fun photo session, indeed, it’s highly matching with CHLOÉ 100% virgin wool sweater after all!

TOP TIP 1: One perfect material virgin wool sweater rules the mid-autumn daytrip all. Always choose the material first, designer name second.

TOP TIP 2: A pair of Mom Fit jeans makes the city tour easy and comfy

Fashion Fun Tampere! Zara Tweed, Baggy Jeans, Chloé Sac & Chanel Slingbacks at Tampere Amuri Museum

August 28, 2021  At Tampere

As being the most populous inland city in the Nordic countries, Tampere the industrial city of Finland is derived from the Tammerkoski rapids, which ‘Tëmpël’ meaning ‘deep, slow section’ and ‘koski’ referring ‘stream’. The earliest known permanent settlements alongside of Tammerkoski were established in 7th century. Built by King Gustav III of Sweden in 1775, around 150 years later, Tampere had become Finland’s most important industrial center, concentrated almost half of the country’s industry, known as ‘Manchester of the North’, where telecommunication NOKIA Cooperation is at the west part of the suburb region.

Tampere grew as a major market town and industrial centre in the 19th century; the industrialization of Tampere was greatly influenced by the Finlayson textile factory and several flax or paper mills, therefore, at the western north part of the city, Amuri district offering the workers the apartments to settle down, to raise the family, or, until nowadays, to present the nostalgic lifestyles for the visitors or anthropologists.

How’s the outfit of the outdoor museum day at AMURI MUSEUM of Workers’ Housing? ZARA tweed jacket mixes with 42% acrylic, 40% polyester, 11% of cotton and 7 % of linen, with the construction of tweed, the fabric occasionally can be rather far from the natural sources, still the colours of ZARA tweed blending with pure black, off-white, shining grey, light denim, royal blue, indigo pigment, even very slight amount of coffee brown, together with copper yellow button carving with embossed anchor emblem, carry out the free style but effortless elegance during our outdoor museum day. The double chest pockets supply the efficient extra spaces to insert museum card or alcohol cloth for the easier reach, and buttons fastening through front also give the multiple ways to wear it as concealed or half-released.

ZARA 100% cotton baggy jeans own the strong denim, which protect the possible scratches of uncertain plants or the surfaces of benches, also the baggy jeans collections provide more circulation spaces for touring around the city, definitely the easy way to breathe in and out during the train journey or waling trip. CHANEL Sling Backs have been travelling with me around the globe, while these black tweed glittering with silver hues are my current favourite pre-fall bargain, since Sing Backs are easy to slip in and off, the lambskin inner soles and 2,5 cm low heels are comfortable to have a city walk, with rolling up the baggy jeans, Sling Backs are definitely able to shape the slimmer silhouette, at the same time to form la mode casual.

As for accessories, MIU MIU round-frame glittered acetate sunglasses with the gradient lenses have serving me the hot summer extending to breezy pre-fall, its light weight is always the best day trip essential. CHLOÉ Aby Chain mini sac can be carried in hand, on the shoulder or cross-body; its functional padlock feature builds on Chloé’s heritage to express practicality: the mechanism comes with a hanging key chain, while a folding leather strap and a magnetic button ensure full closure, with width 19, height 13 and depth 6 cm, the main compartment is spacious for IPHONE plus, a cardholder, a lipstick, and some keys, while the flat leather pocket is good to insert hair rubber bands and 2 packages of alcohol cloth. I adore the Chloé padlock affiliated with the mini golden key, which glow up the envelope shape of design.

Amuri was originally mainly a residence area for the working class from the 19th century, one of the blocks preserved as an outdoor museum, where consisted of wooden apartments and houses built together, they had shared kitchens and public sauna, still the average 15 square meters space is way to tiny for our perspectives. During the adventure of each housing, we choose a cute inner yard, on a birch bench, and take our fashion fun photos. While we set up a bit at nearby AMURI HELMI CAFÉ, surely a lovely museum day.

TOP TIP 1: Wearing baggy jeans to have comfy movement and Sling Backs for the elegant silhouette

TOP TIP 2: Carry an extra T-shirt underneath the tweed jacket to improvise multiple styles according to the autumn weather

Art Attack Ateneum! ILYA REPIN: Portraits of Intelligentsia, Familia, Reina & Tsar

02-29.08.2021 ATENEUM, Helsinki

ILYA REPIN (1844–1930) is prominently known as a master of psychological portrayals of people and depictions of Russian folk life, based on the liberation of serfs in 1861, as well as the intelligentsia of the era, and the rise and fall of the emperor’s absolute power and the transition to Soviet Communism in 1918. ATENEUM Finnish National Gallery has been promoting the enormous REPIN curtain on the exterior wall since April, yet due to the soft lockdown regulation and the upcoming constant UEFA football events, not until this August have I visited REPIN exhibition, which displays more than 140 masterpieces, realised by the ATENEUM and PETIT PALAIS (Musée des Beaux-Arts de la Ville de Paris/Paris Musées), in collaboration with the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum.

REPIN exhibition masters the whole third-floor galleries at ATENEUM, where Gallery 3.1 to 3.13 spanning more than 60 years of REPIN’s lifetime, categorizes into Studies & Paris, Repin the Draughtsman, Early Folk Scenes, Artist Portraits, Later Drawings, Family, Social Criticism, The Full Spectrum of Russian Culture, Portraits of Intelligentsia and Aristocracy, Challenges of the New Century, Time in Terijoki and Finland—the exhibition opens up Gallery 3.1, with width 230 x height 322 meters—Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom (1876), which Repin made his academician. Based on the Novgorod epic poem (East Slavic Bylina), Repin painted this monumental canvas work when he was a fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts in France. Being an advocate for realism, Repin was aspiring to achieve maximum authenticity, studying maps of the sea world, sketching the sea-life of Normandy and touring Crystal Palace in London for the realization of Sadko, while from the comparative points of view, that literary painting conveys a touch of Art Nouveau, much exquisite in the comparison than his later {Social Criticism} or {Challenges of the New Century} era.

Having been trough the turbulence of revolutions, ILYA REPIN was a prolific draughtsman of his time, Barge Haulers on the Volga 1870-73, the horizontal composition with sepia hues, depicts 11 men, juvenile or elder, hollow or fatigue, physically are at the point of collapse from exhaustion, oppressed by heavy, hot weather. This 131.5 x281 cm oil on canvas is a condemnation of profit from inhumane labor, immediately outstands after the fairy tale of Sadko in the Underwater Kingdom at Gallery 3.1, plunges head first into the very heart of the viewers’ interests and human labours’ oppressive reality.

Due to Repin’s continuous infatuations, his marriage with Vera Shevtsova (1855-1918) turned to the split end. Nevertheless, the portraits of four children of Repin and Shevtsova, at Gallery 3.6, pass on uncountable innocent smiles and whimsical moments, some of the family portraits, the monotone of background and the focal light focusing on the subject being gazed, are highly similar to Johannes Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665). By joining the art academy group Peredvizhniki, The Wanderers, the access enable to forge the deep friendship with those distinctive individuals, Repin nearly precisely, and always honestly, captures the likeness of his sitters and the truth emotions of intelligentsia and aristocracy, from pianist Sophie Menter, Author Leo Tolstoy to Countess Natalia Golovina, conveying a believable and intimate sense of they were inside.

The success of portrait works among the intelligentsia promotes Repin into the core of political circles of Russian Emperor, yet he followed keenly the social movements of his day that sought to increase the civil rights and curtail the power of the emperor. Even though Repin supported liberal reforms, as his themes in paintings, however, the assassination of Alexander II turned the artist away from radicalism. At Gallery 3.8 {Social Criticism}, the touch and the techniques on canvas of Annual Memorial Meeting Near the Wall of the Communards of the Cemetery of Père Lachaise in Paris (1883) reminds me of the impressionism masterpiece The Rue Montorgueil 30th of June 1878 by Claude Monet (Musée d’Orsay, Paris), and Repin’s Before the Confessions (1879-85) rediscover the focal lightening of any Rembrandt’s self-portraits. Repin recorded the emotional tension between revolutionaries and the complacent populace is palpable in his paintings, which are also ambiguous in that it is difficult to tell whether whth which side the artist himself stands for, just as Vincent Van Gogh commented on Rembrandt—that the painting goes so deep into the mysterious that there are no words in any language—a genre of literary justice called ‘Repin criticism’.

At Gallery 3.9 {The Full Spectrum of Russian Culture} the enormous paintings such as Zaporozhian Cossacks Writing a Mocking Letter to the Turkish Sultan (1880-91; 203 x 358cm), was received with unalloyed enthusiasm, whereas Religious Procession in the Kursk Governorate (1881-83; 175 x280cm) awakened resentment. The environment of Kursk shows a seething, huddled mass attending the annual Eastern Orthodox religious procession, which carries the icon Our Lady of Kursk. Using the horizontal composition, behind the Orthodox priests, follow a crowd of peasants, beggars and cripples, police, military officers and provincial elite. The painting is a continuation of Repin’s social criticism and highlights perceived abuses by both church and state of Russia. According to art critic Vladimir Stasov, this painting presented viewers with “Russia in all her glory and everyday misery”. The most interesting is, that right next to the huge scale of Kursk, the curator of ATENEUM displays a zoom portrait of a disabled young man, who is, the exact the same character at the front row of fellowship of Religious Procession in the Kursk Governorate, as if the curators try to show to the viewers, that under Repin’s lenses, the unknown citizen still tells a part of difficult history by his own way.

The decline of the Russian emperor’s authority ultimately led to the revolutions in 1917, and the new trend of neo-romantic art society began undermining Repin’s position as a pioneer of realism. Repin responded to those challenges by renewing his style in a more spontaneous direction, making use at times of intense impressionistic brush strokes and thick layering to convey emotional impact. At Gallery 3.11, Demonstration on October 17, 1905 (1907-11) owns surprisingly similarity of Georges Seurat ‘s (1859-91) neo-impressionism technique—that some tiny juxtaposed dots of multi-colored paint allow the viewer’s eye to blend colors optically, rather than having the colors physically blended on the canvas.

The final years of Repin’s timeline resides at Terijoki, Finland where the artist remained an émigré and forged ties with the local art world. From Gallery 3.9 to 3.13, where exhibit most of Repin’s social circles in Finland, and in recognition of which a gala dinner in his honour was held in Helsinki. The viewers even witness several unfinished, under process paintings deliver the unconditional circumstances that even the great master must give in—the death. Repin remained eternally in the yard of his studio home in Kuokkala, near Jyväskylä, Finland.

REPIN Exhibition follows the artist’s timeline to express the chronicle of art creation of a master, and the information panel of each painting is in detailed knowledge. Among the larger galleries, the tiny hallways creatively display Repin’s sketches, showing the different media and styles that Repin adapted. The very unfortunate were, that due to the limited opening time, the queuing and the reservation regulation differ day by day, at my last attempt in late August, by showing the museum card did not allow my entrance. Secondly, REPIN exhibition perhaps is not the ideal occasion to take the kids aged under 15, the infant in some parents’ arms will only cause the most unpleasant experience to every single individual in the quiet gallery.

Fashion Fun Jyväskylä! Chanel Le Twilly, Zara Ivory Tweed & Baggy Denim, Valentino Garavani Rock Stud at Jyväskylä Garden Party

July 25-27 in Jyväskylä, Finland

Athens of Finland, hometown of architect Alvar Aalto, and the host of World Rally Championship, Jyväskylä provides not only the centre of education and arts in lakeside region of Finland, but the city also presents the lovely greenery to enjoy with beloved ones: perhaps a cone of ice sherbet, a bite of salmiakki, or just a relaxing time of afternoon tea.

Joining the baby shower garden party, the outfits of the day are ZARA ivory half-sleeve tweed jacket and vintage washed baggy denim. With 100% cotton exterior tweed, the shoulder pads and 100% viscose interior lining, my wearing of a contour lingerie under Zara ivory tweed shows a vintage Yves Saint Laurent rive gauche silhouette. Together with the rather former short-sleeve tweed jacket, contrasting the style with a vintage washed baggy denim, is always the casual balance; especially at this garden party, surrounded with several kids and infants, paring a pointed-toe low heel slippers is ultimately a brilliant idea.

Established in 1960 by VALENTINO GARAVANI and his business partner Giancarlo Giammetti, VALENTINO remains impeccably detailed on clothing and footwear, both epitomizes glamour and romance. Since 2008, Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli unfurls a new chapter—a continuous revelry of beauty and self-expression, primarily ROCKSTUD collection—in mesmeric silhouettes, ornate textiles and splashes of radiant color, the comfy of the design outstands for multiple occasions as well. Burgundy grainy calfskin flat slippers own its slight heels and shining gold-tone studded rocks, which, match perfectly with Zara ivory white tweed and vintage washed baggy denim: a rather relaxed or, a moderately puffy outfits shrink downwardly, until a sharper edge of pointed-toe le rouge glistering speaks luxury loud.

As for accessories, in order to match the gold-tone buttons from Zara ivory tweed jacket and the shining VALENTINO ROCKSTUD burgundy slippers, I mix and match HELGE quartz crystal jewelry alonside with LOUIS VUITTON yellow copper V necklace, also I mingle CHANEL Baroque AW17 resin stone and ivory dropped pearl earrings plus CHAO&EERO 18K gold bubble pearl rings at once. With CHANEL double C logo, this 100% silk twilly enhances the visual fun and balances the rather basic tones between ZARA ivory tweed and washed denim. MIUMIU round-frame glittered acetate sunglasses own the gradient lenses, the large texts alongside the lenses cradles are my favourite details. About the beauty, TOM FORD #72 TONY carries either matte and satin glow, under the ray of light, flawlessly echoes the gold-tone of tweed jacket buttons, the jewelry and splendid ROCKSTUD burgundy slippers, all introduce the upcoming autumn vibe.

TOP TIP 1: Adapt a pair of savoir-faire stylish slippers at garden party, highly easier to rush in and out among the space of kitchen, the yard and the tea tables

TOP TIP 2: Burgundy rouge is perfectly together with gold tone accessories and vintage denim
