How I Did It: A Fly Girl on the Jet, Roger that!

Fancy the glorious and glamorous life of an air hostess?? Turn off the reality show and think twice. Extremely Hectic schedule, tons of trifles and isolated working environment can drive many of us crazy and dizzy. But a professional fly girl knows how to keep bustle and beauty in great balance. PixyMindy interviews a Vancouver based flight attendant, Jenny, to serve the first-class info on air. Stay tuned!!
Party look after hectic work!
1.  What are your in-flight luggage essentials for working as a flight attendant?
My luggage carries my "whole life" basically. I have all my toiletries in travel size container which saves lots of space. Definitely have hair spray with me all the time. For my job, I have to wear tights/nylon which gets snagged very easily. However, if it's snagged a bit, you can spray hair spray over the hole which prevents ripping further. I always bring a pair of sneakers. I can use them to go to the gym or walk around to check out the city. And always have some nice outfits that I can wear if the crew wants to go out for dinner and definitely a pair of beautiful high pumps!

2. What’s your clubbing style after the hectic flight schedule?
It doesn't matter how tired I feel after a day of work. If I am going out that night, I always dress up and put on a pair of high heels. For clubbing style, if I want to dance, I would either wear jeans or shorts and a sexy top with heels. If I just want to lounge around, I would put on a dress or a skirt with sexy top. In the winter, I would wear my red leather jacket when walking around outside.

3. How to keep skin moist and smooth after hours of cabin humidity?
I don't use any products. To keep my skin moisture, I drink lots of water when I am flying. You are supposed to drink a big glass of water every hour when you are on the flight. If you drink coffee, you have to drink more than a glass of water each hour. Sometimes, if I get bored of drinking water, I would put a splash of lemon or cranberry juice in my water to get some flavor.

4. Your fashion icons are……?
My fashion icons are Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Audrey Hepburn and Chanel director-Karl Lagerfeld’s design. I love Jennifer and SJK's style, because their styles are sexy and chic. As for Audrey, I love her classy and simple looks. Of course, Karl's designs are timeless, chic, and classy! And I love his runway shows, it's always very creative with a beautiful theme!

5. Tell us about your favourite cabin-crew uniform design.
My fav crew uniforms is the virgin America's uniform. It's designed by Banana Republic. I just love their jacket. It's a red trench coat!!!! And I love their pencil skirt!
Positive! Jenny. Fly safe and work hard!!

How I did It: Clothes hoarder, nail art lover and Joo, superblogger!

Happy 2013! Yes, we love fashion magazines, but we follow the superbloggers. British Highstreet fashion magazine Company 2013 launches the Superblogger issue, being ‘the first women’s mag to put bloggers on the cover’(Victoria White 7), featuring 12 pages of pop quizzes of English-blogging gals, plus 20 global street style faces, is truly inspiring and interesting enough, though limited within language and creative Q&A. The so-called ‘superbloggers’ shouldn’t only be confined in island-wide boundary, but reaches to yet a higher latitude. PixyMindy interviews a Jyväskylä native blogger, Viivi, to share more love on fashion and life of winter wonderland, in the spotlight of style.

1. What inspires you to start the blog ‘In the Spotlight of Style’??
I have always been interested in clothes. My mum have told me that when I was only three years old I wanted to change my clothes many times per day.

I wanted to share my passion for clothes/style with other people and bloggers who have the same passion.

I started to write my blog four and a half years ago. At that time there was only some dozens fashion/lifestyle bloggers in Finland. It was quite easy to follow all of them. Nowadays there is over 48 000 blogs listed in www.blogilista.fi

2.How would you define your vogue?
(Does this mean the same as how would I define my style?)
I like little details. I always use nail polish and jewellery. My favourite colours for clothes are grey, dark blue, black, burgundy and beige.
3. Your style icons/idols are…….?
I follow no-one with regularity… But I like Emma Stone, Zoe Saldana and Alexa Chung. Just to mention some.
One of my favourite bloggers is http://www.kayture.com/ She is amazing!

4. Introduce your favourite clothes shopping stores and websites to us.
My favourite clothes shop must be Bershka or Zara. The best webshop is www.nelly.com.

5. Your blogger rules are……?
-Stay positive.
-Don’t get provoked by anonymous comments.
-Write only when you really want to or when you are inspired. Don’t write if you only feel like you need to.
-Advertise/promote only those things you could buy by yourself.

Kiitos, Viivi, wish you word up and spice more up your life!

How I Did It: Wearing Hot and Chic in Nordic Territory

Beautiful Gowns at Independence Day of Finland is haute couture, but everyday high-street style is what we need casually. Pixymissymindy interviews the Jyväskylä residence and Tourism graduate, Pauliina, now 27, to follow how to stay warm in the winter wonderland.

1. Jyväskylä usually gets -25’c, how do you wear stylishly in the winter time?
First of all, on wintertime the most important thing is to stay warm! Well, how do you stay warm and stylish; It’s all about the layers and materials. Couple of years ago I got introduced to Uniqlo’s heat-tech underwear which are really soft and light AND you can get them in different colours! These underwear are so light you don’t even notice them under your favourite jeans.
Pauliina in Lanzarote, 2009
Then I’ll wear usually dark coloured pants/jeans and some (mainly broken coloured) cardigans made from good material mixtures. My favourite brand for winter wear is Benetton. They have quite good material mixes, for example, wool, angora, cashmere, cotton…etc. Materials need to be breathable and warm, because you change your location from freezing degree outside to very warm house/shop inside. It’s not stylish to sweat when going back indoors, eh? Only woolen shirts are too hot for me and this material tickles skin quite a lot. Benetton shirts are thinner, have nice cuts and patterns and they are really warm. I like to buy good quality clothes which also last much longer.

I buy winter jacket every second year ...usually. Last winter jacket was from Esprit and the newest one I have, is from Benetton. My newest jacket has feathers, a long neck and a hoodie, so it’s extra warm. The weather can change quickly so with this jacket I’m even prepared to face snowstorms. Long neck covers half of my face on -20 to -30 ‘C and protects my sensitive skin. Having a belt in the jacket is a nice detail, because it makes your figure look more feminine and not that snowmanish. You always can make the final touch to your style with woolly hats, mittens/leather gloves and scarves.

Last but not least are the shoes! They can add the final touch to your style. Now I’m still searching for new black leather winter shoes which could fit with most of my outfits and would be walk-able (not too high heels this time). My last winter boots were till my knees and had lamb wool fully inside. Really warm and usable when there’s lots of snow, but not that stylish. I used to live more far away and the shoes had to be walk-able and warm. But now, that I live in the city center I can choose much fancier shoes. Actually, I’m dreaming about these Marc O’Polos leather boots, but it’s going to stay as a dream, because of the price over 200 € (whoa!). They are not that useful for winter time as well, because there’s not any lining. Good winter shoes need to be warm, walk-able and stylish! Shoe materials from outside should be real leather and from inside some kind of woolly lining or big enough to wear extra socks. The bottom of the shoe should be anti-slippery for example rubber. There’s a real challenge to find perfect shoes in Jyväskylä, where there’s not that good variety in stores and brands (or they are sold out quickly). I would not consider buying shoes online, because it’s already kind of hard to find shoes that fit to my feet properly.

All the winter wear last longer when you handle your clothes with care. It’s preferable to take your winter jacket out to balcony when there’s minus degrees. Then gets all fresh and you’ll get the dust and any smells (parfums etc.) out from it. Leather shoes should be cover with anti-wet sprays or gel, because if leather shoes get wet even once they won’t keep you feet warm anymore.

2. Which fashion magazines inspire you all the time?
I would say Elle magazine at the moment and for interior decoration, it’s Deko
magazine. I also follow Kookaïs facebook page…etc. I used to order InLook magazine.

3. Tell us about your daily beauty products.
I have extra sensitive skin so moisturizing is really important! I use lot of oily whole body cream to maintain the balance of my skin. But for my facial treatment I use Lumene products, which are made for sensitive Nordic skin. I like Lumene products, because they have good price and quality. They use lots of natural ingredients and cherish the Nordic natural beauty. On winter time skin will get extra dry, because of heating indoors and dry minus degree weather outdoors. I have Lumene’s SOS facial cream which brings relief to dry skin in only 5 minutes. So not that red couperosa skin on wintertime. When I want to treat myself I buy l’Occitan’s products, but at the moment I don’t have any (only lip balms). I also have Dolce&Gabbana’s Light Blue body lotion, but this I save only for elated moments.

For nails I always use Mavalan’s products like nutritive nail cream and nail polish. For colour my nails I usually love Dior’s or Chanel’s nail polish. They last long and are rich in pigment. For lips everyone use Blistex, especially Daily lip Conditioner (with aloe vera) keeps lips soft and moist even in the driest weather. Every now and then I’ll do facial mask to get dead cells off my skin and to make fresh feel. Almost all my cosmetics at the moment are from Lumene, but when I’ll get employed I will purchase maybe something like Clinique (a bit more expensive than Lumene) etc. Because it’s made for sensitive and allergic skin. For my eye lashes I’ve already used Clinique’s products and now I’m using black coloured Kanebo 38’C.

For parfum, I used to have Kenzo’s l’eau and Bvlgari’s Green Jade. This summer I bought Flora by Gucci and for this winter I change back to Chérie parfum by Dior. This odour from Dior brings back the memories from my time in Paris and Green Jade brings back the memories from Lanzarote. Even though I told many of my daily beauty products, I think the beauty comes from inside. The most important is to have a healthy diet and to do versatile exercise.
Pauliina's hand made berry jame!
4. Introduce one of your favourite pubs of Jyväskylä night life.
From my nearest pubs I like most Poppari (which was before Jazz bar) and
Hemingway’s. Poppari has the best jazz gig’s in town! They have most cultural and relaxed atmosphere. If you want to meet musician’s, artists or art people, this is the place. Also my ex-room mate and jazz singer is working there as the bar tender. In Hemingway’s I can find lots of friends and familiar faces. There’s extra polite staff, live music and relaxed decoration. People come here to meet each other, play games and listen to acoustic live music. They have nice variety in drinks, but quite high prices. But the staff makes sure you’ll enjoy your stay with smile and serving drinks also to tables.

From upper city I prefer Sohwi (which locates near University’s main campus), which has good a bit academic feeling for a pub. They have good food, music (live performance at times) and good prices for drinks. Really relaxed atmosphere and people from all ages like it. From upper city I would like to mention Green Fairy which has good range in beers and you can ask anything about beers from the staff and they have the answer. Very polite staff!

5. Your future dreams are…………?
My future dreams are that my family and friends stay healthy, I’d find a meaningful

work and I could travel more. When having a good work it’s easier to plan future! :)

How I did it: When Moscow meets Milano

Departing at 55’N to 45’ latitude, from a -27’c North realm to a +27’c designed kingdom, When a Russian passion meets Italian fashion, what kind of chemical element will happen?? PixyMindy interviews bella Olya, whom we met at hostel in Madrid, now a fashion student at Istituto Europeo di Design Milano, to show us how she nails between the school life and the vogue zest.
Natural street style
1.What do you like most about your studying at Department of Fashion Marketing?
I have been always interested in fashion a lot, but this has never been my “passion” as a lot of people say. I really enjoy working with it as a tool, or even product, not being one of these fancy world’s participators, but know how the things work and being able to manage them.
The subjects I like most are the major ones, like Merchandising, Fashion product, Distribution, what I am really glad about, meaning I did the right choice.

2. Tell us about your winter style in Moscow.
Haha, well, when its -27 (like it was when I came back this time) you can’t think of anything but Moncler jacket, uggs, tights under jeans!!!
But if the weather is normal I usually wear leather boots (motorcycle or vintage ones), parka jacket (with 2-3 t-shirts/sweaters under if its cold, but still layering looks cool), oriental or plain black woven cardigan under, jeans or a plain/velvet black skirt with black tights.
It can be suitable for lots of things and I can just switch to silk blouse or black dress if I go out.

3. Who are your fashion icons?
When I was working in TSUM (a big luxury department store in Moscow) before moving to Milan I had one designer who I could name my icon: Alexander McQueen. For the influence he made in the fashion world, for his pretty short but spectacular career, for the controversial attitude he had. When I was looking at the pieces they were the ones I could say about “I have never seen the design like that before”.

Now I still appreciate a lot his creativity and love some brands like Celine, Givenchy, Maison Martin Margiela, Acne, Jil Sander, but I can’t say they are my icons.
I pick a picture from here, find inspiration there, add this or that page in the bookmarks, I do a mix of things I like not keeping anybody on my mind.
Beach Style
4. Do you read any magazine/blog or attend exhibition to gather your fashion inspiration?
I don’t like reading magazines at all (that’s why I probably didn’t choose Fashion Communication), but if an issue of Dazed & Confused or Purple catches my eye and I have enough time to read it, I buy it. I prefer digital versions or websites which have magazines’ structure with different categories and news/topics updated continuously.
About the blogs: I prefer the inspirational blogs with just pictures which I collect for my projects or my personal galleries on my pc to use them after. Sometimes I don’t even know who is the author, I just save the links if I like it.
I love exhibitions, especially by contemporary artists, because I guess that is where the pure inspiration is, in the designers’ ones you can just copy stuff, but still its very useful for being updated.

5. Introduce your favourite store/mall to go shopping in Milano.
There is the district in Milan which is called “Quartiere della moda” meaning “Fashion district” with all the most famous and expensive designer boutiques, which is beautiful and full of Chinese, Russian and other “new market’s” costumers.

But for myself I prefer a more underground area which is called “Porta Ticinese”. Historically it was the living/working place of artistic people in the 60s and it still maintains this mood. It is an old narrow street full of streetstyle shops, not cheap (if you go for a bag/leather jacket) but way more affordable than the district I was speaking before. There are a lot of fashionable but less classy people in this area. In the summer nights it becomes a very nice place to meet friends and drink something at.

Thank you for your attention! Ciao!!!

Grazie, bella!!!

Magazine Madness: Stella 2011, The Pop Issue

No. 3 The Pop Issue 2011

E-magazine is hot, but paperback will never die, for the charms of cover, the art of binding, the choice of newsprint and the weight of actual, artistic and amusing existence. Despite those ‘big budget bricks’ on the supermarket racks, there are quite some active contributors working on creative fashion readings for an alternative pleasure, and Stella from Denmark is among one of them.

Based in Copenhagen, the Editor in Chief/Art Director/Founder Laura Terp Hansen describes this biannual magazine thatfeatures women who are interesting because of what they do and think rather than how they look or how big a wardrobe they have got. Stella was born out of the will to put personality before glamour.” Owning a MA from The Danish Design School and London College of Printing, Hansen has five years of experience working for the Danish fashion magazine SIRENE and NYLON USA in New York. Besides listening to old records and wearing Danish Stine Goya designs and Vibe Harsløf jewelry, she declares herself a magazine fan: her shelves are placed with The Gentlewoman, Lula, LOVE, Mark, and of course, Stella.
Though most of the freelancers and photographers are females, Stella is romantically girly feminine yet owning strongly independent voice. The fashion pages of Stella echoes with the each individually designed major themes, standouts the outstanding difference to those household-famed female mags. Issue 3 lists 2 major pop icons from 1940’s to 2010’s, and yes, iphone and Coca Cola can’t be missed;  on fashion campaign pages, 'My Little Pony' by photographer Katrine Rohrberg and stylist Sanne Frank collaborate neon pinky by camera filter, horizontally with rye filed and grassland, which reminds me of Karin Kirsten's blog Wunderlust aurora. With zero page of commercial promotion, Stella is more like a sophisticated photo album than a glossy catalogue.

Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

Merci! Parisian Maison Martin Margiela is launching miraculously, mirthfully and multitudinously for Swedish fast fashion brand H&M, and bouncing to selected H&M stores worldwide on November 15, 2012. Multiplex misalliances?Nay, more like maximum minimalism.

‘The democracy of our fashion has always been the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further,’ says MMM. The collection wraps re-workings of 3M’s signified voluminous shapes and oversized tailoring, asymmetrical draped dresses, enlarged metallic-tone clutch and pseudo-gloves purse. Its avant garde style still remains very chemical- lab vision, when the snow-white cover-all shows more a campsite sleeping bag than a femme winter coat.

While 3M hoorays for the anti-tyrannical, the price tags print just a little bit opposite. The range will be from 7.99 to 199.99 USD, it shall depend on how buyers, goers and shoppers truly experimental are.
