Art Attack: Henrik Vibskov in Helsinki 2014

Design Museum Helsinki upper floor exhibition explores the wonder world of Henrik Vibskov, a Danish avant garde fashion designer and installation art creator.

Born in 1972, Jutland, Henrik Vibskov graduated from Central Saint Martins of Art and Design in London in 2001. He returned to Denmark, owned the label under his name, and has designed over 20 collections for both men and women. The Wall Street Journal, in an overview of New Nordic designers, praised his creation as “playful fashion sense that steers clear of Scandinavian minimalism, emphasizing instead the eclectic sensibility of multicultural Copenhagen.”

Vibskov’s installation is sometimes collaborated with his fashion show, which are full of various textures, strong colours and whimsical humour. The core of the Design Museum exhibition displays Vibskov’s solo exhibition and art set at the Paris Fashion Week of 2014.

In 5 showrooms and 1 exhibition hall, the fashion collection hanging in a dark spaces, decorated with Mint (large mint plastic sculpture) and Big Wet Shiny Boobies, which, it’s more a combination of young breasts and fresh sperms. Dozens of black ‘Bird Kite Necks’ composed an amusing childlike maze, where we visitors can linger in between and had fun. On the wall there are wooden puzzles interwoven with hundreds of colourful cranes. In the documentary screening room, uneven photos of Vibskov’s art exactly demonstrate the look of his Copenhagen studio. Exhibit the works in a limited space prove the ingenuity of curator and the team of Design Museo.

Though slimy, soft, centipede worms nausea me forever, or wooden child-puppets without facial expression bring up the idea of the handicapped after nuclear-leak incidents, still, the installation show perfectly of Vibskov crazy and creative states of mind. The black ‘n’ white wheel of fortune, the blast amount of white wool and the orange rollers are more or less Yayoi Kusama. Vibskov’s inspiration ‘cannot be gathered while sitting at the office’, nor can be “forced or given boundaries.”

Among a 21-minute documentary, this DanishPygmalion dissects his life on inspiration: “I enjoy placing myself in the midst of the unknown. It is then that I can learn and adapt to things completely new…..people go to office and work all day there, for me, it’s very strange.”

Indeed, it’s very odd and surely queer.

Fashion Fun Leppävaara! Vivienne Westwood Mohair Sweater & Marc by Marc Jacobs Sunglasses

Winter is still lingering in Helsinki, but can spring be far away? After January winter sales, I fall in love with YSL poppy red lipstick, since its colour hue is perfect to mix and match with pale pink and lotus purple. Though rouge is best for cherry lips shape, it gives oriental full lips yet another sexy look for the well lined-up. 

The outfit today for the Design Museum visiting, I am wearing Zara cotton t-shirt, Love Sex Money 100% silk blouse, Gina Tricot black high-waist slim-fit jeans, Brandmair 100% modal t-shirt, Vanessa Bruno 100% cotton cardigan and Vivienne Westwood mohair sweater.

As for accessories, Marc by Marc Jacob sunnies are my surprising bargain at Stockmann 40% off winter sale, with its black ‘n’ white stripes spectacles frames, they look sleek and lovely, and 18K Gold Dog Eared pearl necklace has been graceful on my neck since 2007. Last but not the lease, Minna Parikka Myra blue boots, suede and whimsical design, finally I am able to stand tall and walk quiet on any surface.

My bargain hunting rule never fails me: purchasing spring/summer items in chilly January, and autumn/winter cashmere sweater during summer final sales. ALWAYS.

Magazine Madness: Kate Moss, VOGUE UK Holiday Issue 2013-14

Kate Moss is 40 in 2014. To British Vogue’s tradition, Kate appears as cover girl once again to celebrate the immense fashion heritage with British well-known photographer Tim Walker.

According to VOGUE 2013 guest editor John Galliano’s words, that Kate is ‘as much muse as creator. She understands the power of fashion, the language and magic it speaks, and how to convey this into pictures’ (Galliano, 268). It perfectly shows that no matter how British media tries to find the next Kate Moss’s heir apparent, it predictably fails. Not only because of her unfocused eyes and highlight cheekbones, her boyish body figure and various body languages on the shootings, but her off-stage street fashion and party wear. Those show her unique taste on fashion, or perhaps we should say, on style. Since fashion may fade away but style stays, Miss Moss phenomenon will still last for ages. 

Photographer TimWalker has his famous fairy-tale styles of fashion campaign, while VOGUE UK Christmas issue ‘Made in Britain’, he adapts black-and-white, clean-cut and sleek, without Baroque settings, pinky colours or enormous ball gown, he nails the characters. VOGUE UK December issue usually provides astonishing fashion photos, shopping stories and designers’ lives (as Isabel Marant);from Kate Moss to Stella Tennant, from Gareth Pugh to Nick Knight, that’s how we call Britain Great.

Cuisine Crush Helsinki! Midhill Burger Answers My Hunger

Eating burger shall not be unavoidably super sizing up, as long as the bun, the beef, the sauce and the salad are non-gene modification and properly made. After my Mountain View life in August 2011, I have been hunting and searching some high quality burger inn with casual dining atmosphere hiding in Helsinki, Finland.

Passing by the passage linked between City Centre and Aleksanterinkatu, Midhill Burger is waiting there, vibe, brisk and full of American graffito ink on the porcelain wall. Fascinated by the chalk hand-written ‘Brgr of the Day’ on the storefront board, we folks decide to give it a fresh try. The menu is designed a twitter-like layout, and the pony-tailed waitress takes our order soon. First served French Fries on green pepper, 4e, I love the iron pen-rack and yesterday newspaper loading the hot snack. Secondly is Brgr of the Day,9,80e: holding onto a very-in-and-out burger basket, with slightly baked bun, yellow pickle, purple onion and red potato rings, chowder cheese, and juicy, rich, thick and medium rare beef, Top-A!D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!!! Usually beef fiber can be easily un-chewable and later stuck between teeth gaps, but Burger of the Day has answered my very own meaty concerns.

Operated by TV chef Hans Välimäki, only open for a few weeks and already become one of the hippest burger joints in the centre of city. The menu at Midhill Burger Helsinki features a variety of burgers, with fresh ingredients and black Angus beef. Recommended are the Korean BBQ burger, the classic cheeseburger and hot dogs!! With the a bit tough of American diner, and the designer furniture and stuffed wild boars on the wall, its interior is reminiscent of retro and trendy. This restaurant is great for lunch while shopping and reunion of a group of happy at the same time goofy buddies. 

An unforgettable burger defines its beef quality and sauce taste. Enjoying my burger and watching the head of boar hanging on the beam column at Midhill Burger, hhuumm…Brgr of the Day does make my day!!

Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Fuller Olsen (born June 13, 1986), also known as the Olsen Twins collectively, are American actresses and fashion designers. The sororal twins made their acting debut as infants playing Michelle Tanner on the television series Full House.

Charm the allure cover the second time, Mary-Kate and Ashley show up separately at allure December 2013 cover, share their beauty tips and talk about the turning point of their life to be designers. The sisters’ last cooperative movie project, New York Minute, was not, overall, considered a success, but still an enjoyable Hollywood YA comedy for a great laugh (I even own the DVD). For the allure interview, Mary-Kate is ‘wearing a crisp black blouse with bouffant sleeves from The Row; it is tucked into a pair of Earnest Sewn jeans, craftily ripped at the knees. A perilous pari of dark Manolo Blahnik heels lifts her three inches higher than Ashley. Mary-Kate’s hair falls loosely over a pair of pretty earrings from Croatia’ (Bachrach, 200).

The effortless style is what I adore of the Olsen twin. The sisters can always match with fast fashion and high-end, sometimes with vintage mix, to level the style to another represent. In Olsen Sisters: Fashion Style Book, it introduces their Boho style, ethnic one-piece, fur coat, maxi-length, leopard pattern, leather, tailored jacket, knit, shirt, cut & sewn, skinny pants, check shirt, stole, shoes, bag and sunglasses to analyse their dressing-up and down secrets. Over 350 pictures of Olsen sister’s chronicle fashion pictures, lately I consider even though owning rather low-intermediate Japanese reading ability, still, I would prefer continuously purchasing collection book rather than monthly magazine in the near future; since I would like to have my penny and inspiration, non-stop, without lousy advertisement, surprise at every page turn.
