Etymologically, Taipei derived from Tai, abbreviates ‘Taiwan” and Pei “North”in Mandarin and Hokkien Chinese. It’s been always lovely to revisit home city for the family and friends moments. In February, early spring as already arrived at the park: the wind blows slightly chilly at busy streets, the rain drops hard during the midnight, and the plum blossom do not fall far from the trees at SCCP Taipei SongShan Cultural & Creative Park.
SongShan Cultural & Creative Park was initially constructed in 1937 as a tobacco factory under the name Matsuyama Tobacco Plant of the Monopoly Bureau of the Taiwan Governor’s Office (臺灣總督府專賣局松山菸草工場) under the Japanese Occupation until 1945. The factory ceased to produce cigarettes in 1998 for concern over urban planning and the decline in tobacco demand.
In 2001, the Taipei City Government redesigned the defunct tobacco factory, converted it into a historic site and architectural highlight with galleries, boutiques and cafés. Together with Taipei Dome, the site is known as SongShan Cultural & Creative Park.
