Tea Time! Lisbon Green Tea, Tiny Yummy Dorayaki, Din Tai Fung Pineapple Cake with MUJI Hasami Porcelain

2020 is the year of Olympics, the fortune sign of Chinese zodiac, while the massive epidemic since January (December 2019 in China) forces the world currently at the state of quarantine mode. Staying at home, we are advised under the nouritionist to take more rest, Vitamin B&C, honey, fruits and tea to boost our immune system; hence, Lisbon Tea Co. pineapple green tea in need is the time indeed, the antioxidants, catechins, and amino acid L-theanine containing in green tea can improve our brain function, physical performances, body metabolism as well as lower the risks of Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular attacks, colorectal cancer, diabetes and obesity.

Inspired by the flavours from Portugal, dehydrated pineapple pieces are from São Miguel Island, and strong orange peel and yellow pulp fruit are cultivated traditionally in glasshouses for two year, together it gives a more of bittersweet flavor but fresh aroma comparing to traditional green tea. For double tea spoons at 90’c boiled water for 3-4 minutes, the rather pale taste is perfect with Din Tai Fung pineapple cake from Taiwan, red bean dorayaki and mini biscuits from Japan.

Din Tai Fung founder Yang Bingyi initially had been working at a cooking oil retailer Heng Tai Fung (恆泰豐) nearly a decade in Taiwan. During the 1970’s, while tinned cooking oil business diminished drastically, Heng Tai Fung’s owner suggested that Mr. Yang and his wife Lai Pen Mei converted half the shop to making and selling steamed buns, which, the juicy cuisine with pork filling were so popular that the family stopped selling oil and founded a full-fledged restaurant in 1972. Din Tai Fung is known internationally for its paper-thin wrapped steaming buns (小籠包) within in total 18 folds. Altogether with pork rib fried rice, vegetables dumplings and daily made traditional tapas, Din Tai Fung was named one of the Top Ten restaurants in the world by The New York Times on 17 January 1993. In November 2009, the brand was awarded one Michelin star by the Hong Kong and Macau 2010 edition of the Michelin Guide.

Definitely visiting Din Tai Fung at least once during my every Chinese New Year holidays, I would like to try its pineapple cakes and carry home for the souvenir to friends. The filling is made with maltose, pineapples, sugar, winter melon, soy bean oil, concentrated lemon juice and salt, while the crispy golden curst with ingredients of flour, butter, egg yolk, powdered milk, dry milk, palm oil, sweet butter milk and cheese powder, without the preservatives, the best is to enjoy within 4 weeks from the date of purchase. Din Tai Fung pineapple cake taste more of sour fruity texture comparing to traditional bakery edition; therefore, the bittersweet Lisbon pineapple green tea balances the flavor accordingly.

My all-time favourite Dorayaki(どらやき/銅鑼焼き) is a type of Japanese confection, which consists of two small pancake patties made from castella wrapped around a filling of sweet red bean paste. ‘Dora’ means ‘gong’ in Japanese, and because of the similarity of the shapes, this is probably the origin of the name of the pastry. The Japanese manga and anime character Doraemon loves dorayaki and so it is depicted as his favorite food, while the original Dorayaki consisted of only one layer. I assuredly love to devour huge hot sweet Dorayaki at night market food stall, while bring the tiny version back to Finland to cure my homesickness is the option I can survive for awhile. The alternative origin of Dorayaki were made when a samurai named Benkei forgot his gong (dora) upon leaving a farmer’s home where he was hiding, later the farmer subsequently used the gong to fry the pancakes, thus the name Dorayaki.

Besides Dorayaki and Din Tai Fung pineapple cakes, the Japanese biscuits pack consist of dried muikku, shrimp crackers, seaweed bites and rice cookies neutralize the super sweetness of Dorayaki and pineapple. Rather than the plastic bag, these tiny shapes of the Japanese biscuits are easier to nail up from the MUJI Hasami shallow bowl. Located in Nagasaki, Hasami is one of the foremost pottery districts in Japan. Began crafting its porcelain ware almost 400 years ago during the Edo period. The MUJI collection of Hasami porcelain collection, designed by Takuhiro Shinomoto of Tortoise in Venice, California, whose vision was to integrate modern tableware design with the organic quality produced by traditional Japanese manufacturing techniques.

Having the Japanese biscuits and Portuguese green tea with the use of Hasami pure white porcelain, by comparing to my shining Lomonosov or Bavaria tea cup collection, the adaptation of MUJI style, is to create a touch of Zen atmosphere at tea time during this challenging moments. Either placing the Hasami teacup or capsule toy Gudetama royal princess on MUJI Indonesian natural grass coaster, make the tea session a whimsical and relaxing mode. The colour spectrum is always my major consideration during the photography. Due to Dorayaki and pineapple cakes are in brownish hues, hence garnishing with the gold and orange tones by selection Lomonosov USSR hand painted tea kettle live up the monotone of Hasami porcelain. The birch wood teaspoon, made in Finland, also matches the tone. I usually apply flat lay technique to portrait the teatime as the whole, lately I discover that bevel composition can capture the alternative perspectives of the porcelain and food, which, we play with the lights at yet another interesting level.

The tea in need is at very time indeed. Stay Calm and Carry on.

Fashion Fun Helsinki! All Saints Leather Jacket, Acne Studios & Vivienne Westwood Accessories at Chapel of Silence of Kamppi

Kamppi, Helsinki

In March, drizzling and chilly days arrive as the wind blows slightly crispy at the city centre and the rain drops hard during the midnight. It is rather a quiet weekend but perfect to visit museums through Kamppi area without wearing heavy apparels.

located on the Narinkka Square, Kamppi Chapel is also known as the Chapel of Silence since it is intended to be a place to enjoy calmness during the busiest transit spot of Helsinki. The chapel was constructed as a part of the World Design Capital program in 2012, designed by K2S Architects Ltd., and won the International Architecture Awards in 2010.

The outfits at Kamppi Chapel are Valentino 70% virgin wool and 30% cashmere in black, with Zara 100% cotton high-waist jeans in coral black. Made in Italy, VLTN cashmere sweater presents merely the off-white abbreviation logo plus a pentagon star; its feather-lightweight piece is comfy and easy to carry during the weekend trip, on its wash label indicates manufactured on 19. July 2019 with bard code, and the cropped shape surely also dexterously to match Zara slim jeans.

I have become a huge ZARA jeans-collection fan since 2019: its versatile selection and fitting, let alone a bargain price can fulfill my Le Look of day without any extra worries. Made in Turkey, buckle up with 4 ruthenium buttons rather YKK zipper, Zara Basics line still shows the design details and consideration of materials at fast fashion industry.

Brining the attitude and breaking the noise started from 1994, East London based ALL SAINTS leather collection is crafted with its own unique shape, style, and attention to detail, designed to be worn all year round. As being a member of the Leather Working Group, a not-for-profit organisation that provides the leading environmental certification for the leather manufacturing industry, ALL Saints biker jacket focuses on logo details on every button and zipper, each piece is highly bespoken.

Acne Studios long coat with 38% nylon, 30% wool, 28% mohair and 4% elastane can be worn as layer-up piece or simply outwear. The light grey hue is flawless with royal blue and dark orange, it’s slim sleeves beneath the elbow parts allow the rather slim All Saint leather jacket to easy tuck-in.

As for accessories, I decide to go for royal blue and dark orange hues. Made in Italy and purchase at Okinawa Outlet, Vivienne Westwood scarves have always my collector’s must-have while there is a great bargain.

CHLOÉ ivory white acetate sunglasses yet turn out very stylish to crown on the vertex and Le Look of the Day completes with VIVIENNE WESTWOOD raining-cloud bracelet, forecasts the upcoming weather condition in the city of Helsinki.

Accessories Accede: What’s in My Chanel Python Sac?

Q&A in Helsinki, Finland

Tell us the decision on the use of python sac.
Since May 2019, as it had become too increasingly difficult to find exotic skins that met both the brand’s design and ethical standards, Chanel announced for no longer use of crocodile, lizard, snake and stingray skins on its collection. While Chanel headquarter in Paris demands to destroy all the exotic collection from stock, it would be a wiser decision to make the private sale offer to staff, therefore, the flap bag with calf skin as the major use of material, along together with python skin design on its double flap, shoulder strap and tip pocket has become my favourite sac in 2020.

How to take care of the exotic leather product?
Avoid to have the direct contact with raindrops or snowflake, once it applies any, immediately wipe it off with a piece of cotton cloth, or simply from a sleeve as a quick remedy. Dodge from the direct sunlight, and storage the exotic sac in a rather dry and cool cabin/wardrobe before spray a thin layer of COLLONIL waterproofing. Besides the felt bag, place a mini portion of desiccant inside of the sac.
Sexy Look enzyme moisturizing facial mask, without alcohol nor preservatives, its jojoba oil, hyaluronic acid, Vitamin B3 & B5, cheery, blueberry and mulberry ingredients penetrate the facial cuticles and promote the metabolism. Made in Taiwan, it is the perfect package to carry during the long haul flight, or a lovely treat to friends as souvenir.

Chanel silver slim wallet in caviar leather in size 19 cm is compactable to insert any size of bank notes and credit cards. The front pocket is easy to inset a movie ticket or store coupons, as well the coins inside of the slots.

As known as Yolk Bro, Gudetama (ぐでたま) is the popular Sanrio cartoon character by Emi Nagashima (永嶋瑛美) . The name Gudetama is formed from ‘gudegude’(ぐでぐで) which is used to evoke the impression of laziness; while the word ‘tamago’ (たまご) means egg in Japanese. During Chinese New Year I always love to surprise myself at Gashapon store by tweaking a new Gudetama capsule toy for the good luck. In 2020 my new collection is a coffee cup decoration, that Gudetama lying on the egg white, yawning for the boredom of his daily life.

JUelry brass ring is my new year favourite on fingers. Founded by Tiffany Juu,  the Taiwanese young jewelry designer combines vintage elements with modern style, inspired by the poetry from Taiwanese anthropologist Yang Zhou(楊照) or the novels from Haruki Murakami’s (村上春樹Kafka on the Shore, the collection from JUelry owns the touch of art nouveau, the smooth curves with expression of vitality of growing plants.

Chao & Eero Bubble pearl rings are customized delicates. Chao moved to Lahti from Taiwan, established the studio together with Eero, the couple designer adapt Japanese freshwater pearls and 18K gold to forge the minimalistic but highly luxury jewelry.

Kyoto crafted beauty brand Yojiya is always elegant. Founded by Shigeo Kunieda in 1904, its instant facial wash, powder papers and natural spray are my all time necessities. Travelling in Kyoto in September 2018, the mini hand mirror is now become my major accessory on yet another journey.

Dior Long-wear Eyeliner/Eye shadow #060 in silver flake sparkles on the edge of eyelids, together with Diormania edition of its Forever Couture Perfect Cushion #02. Created by Dior image director Peter Philips, the foundation provides a matte finish along with 24-hour hydration, and acts as a form of skincare. Its formula has been infused with wild pansy extract combined with a moisturizing agent, as well as rose fruit extract that helps diminish enlarged pores. The case arrives on a stylish coat to extend the Dior Oblique retro jacquard canvas, its slim silhouette inspired by couture monogram pattern. From my great courtesy to dear Sonia, who is always helpful on the tips at Dior Backstage.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet No. 3, mascara #90 Noir Khôl, and La Base mascara are the essentials during travel or shopping. At Helsinki duty free, Chanel NO.5 mini twist eau de parfum with 7ml is 2019 Christmas limited edition, though the formula of NO.5 is still a rather stronger onto my skin, but a single spray during the long haul fleet shall be quite pleasant to employ.

Victor & Rolf FLOWERBOMB voluptuous body cream performs very well as hand cream, its 15ml is light and indispensable on the go.

IPHONE is no doubt the daily need. I still keep my Taiwanese mobile numbers for the convenient contact with my family and friends during the holidays.

COLLONIL is officially recommended by CHANEL repaired centre Le Meux.

Tea Time! Ladurée Crystal Violet Petals, Mariage Frères Earl Grey & Bavaria Scherzer Tea Cup on Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day! In Finland it is more of a celebration between close friends or beloved members. By invited to a meet-up event from Institute Français de Finlande at night before 14th, the surprise treat, petals de violettes naturelles cristallisées from Paris Ladurée, wrapped in a crystal-clear packaging tide atop of a baby pinkish ribbon, makes the Valentine tea time more alternatively inviting.

Originated from south of France, Crystallised violet petals, or called violettes de Toulouse, are approximately 2-5mm in size, made of sugar, natural violet flowers, acacia gum and natural colourings. Still commercially made in Toulouse, that hot syrup is poured over the fresh flower (or the flower is immersed in the syrup) and stirred until the sugar recrystallizes and has dried. Violet petals can be nibbled on as they are, or used to garnish cakes, while recommended as perfect for popping in a glass of champagne or sparkling wine. Still, the intense violet scent conjuring up with earl grey tea and Jules Destrooper butter waffles, are the perfect finishing touch to French-style teatime.

The choice of tea on Valentine’s Day is Mariage Frères Earl Grey French Blue. I’ve been always fascinated by the various flavor of Mariage Frères during the duty at Louis Vuitton, and finally purchased at Nice Airport duty free. The high quality of Mariage Frères tea bags rely on the use of original French cotton muslin sachets, allow China black tea, velvety bergamot, cornflower and royal blue flowers to give out the sweet and rich aroma while pouring 90’c simmering water. Founded on 1stJune in 1854 by brothers Henri and Edouard Mariage, before the tea trade and tea salon business, Mariage brother began voyaging on behalf of the royal court in 1660: Pierre was sent to Madagascar on a mission for the French East India Company, while Nicolas made to Persia and India before being named part of an official deputation sent by Louis XIV.

For the teacup, I love to discover a bargain at local theft stores or at Retro & Vintage Expo in Helsinki. In total 3 EUR for a set of 12 pieces of China bones, engraved with lily in pastel grey and deep purple hues, while bronzing the edges of the tea sauce, Bavaria Scherzer teacup collection is a surprise discovery. The firm was established in Rehau, 1880 by Johann Nicol Adam Zeh, in 1910 it was transformed into a limited company Porzellanfabrik Zeh, Scherzer & Co. A.G., and exported over 70 percent of production to United States, while Bavaria Scherzer ceased its production of porcelain in 1992. My collection of the trademark, at the bottom, without ZEH, lists SCHERZER BAVARIA GERMANY, with a royal crown above the text.

For the additional snacks at French-style afternoon teatime, Jules Destrooper waffle cookies with natural butter and sugar from Belgium, is my all-time favourite, with Wilkin & Sons honey and raspberry jam, they are balancing the strong taste of Mariage Prères black tea. Since the petals de violettes naturelles cristallisées from Paris Ladurée are in hues of pink and purple, a touch of Mozart chocolate balls, with folio-wrap details of copper gold and burgundy red, and the Japanese sushi-shape lollipop are very welcome on the setting of photography. Valentine’s Day major theme doesn’t always have to stick with poppy reddish: while violet, pink, grey and gold can altogether compose la petite chanson d’amour.

Beauty Boom! Christian Dior & Miss Dior Eau de Parfum for 2020!

2019 began with a hip-hop party at Helsinki central, ended with a profound breakfast date with lovely friends of all-time. It is a year full of trips and events, while inevitably encountering certain hardships and gossips; while the best part of obstacle is that viewing myself as how truly is, allows me to meditate and make adjustments.

New Eau de Parfum represents the New me! Miss Dior Eau de Parfum débuted on February 12th, 1947, when Christian Dior introduced it with his first fashion show. The name was given by when his sister, Catherine, arrived by surprised, and Mitzah Bricard, the fashion counselor, pointed out that, “See, it’s Miss Dior”.

Miss Dior Eau de Parfum reformulation released in September 2017, created by Dior Perfumer François Demachy. The composition of new edition is announced as elegant floral, the top notes are lemon, pink pepper, blood and sweet orange, while the cores are roses from Grasse and Damask completing with jasmine leaf, and the bottom of the pyramid are palisander rosewood and patchouli. The use of citrus fruits leaves behind a modern-chypre style and brings a new carnal-chypre. The mix of the roses gain a different weight as if it were a jam made with a fallen petals and green buds that were discarded during the morning harvest. Elegant, mature, sexy and ultra feminine, Miss Dior’s sillage is moderate, but the longevity is excellent.

The crystal clear parfum bottle delivers the original spirit of House of Dior: on the tap engraving the capitalized CD, a silver ribbon bridges the rectangular body; the ivory white sticker on the letters of vintage epistle ‘Miss Dior’ atop of classic bold font ‘EAU DE PARFUM’, while at the bottom of the bottle marbling with a platoon of 15 hounds tooth pattern. Turning the bottle from the perspectives of its opposite side, the label sticker shows ‘MADE IN FRANCE’, while the trademark of ‘Parfums Christian Dior’ remains in oldie touch. The light baby pink cardboard box are silvering at the edge; both the lid and the sides of the packaging are sealed with classic hounds tooth marks.

As for the inspiration of photography, besides the fuchsia purple dry roses, Dior crème abricot (fortifying cream) for nails filled within a vintage-touch ivory cosmetic case, and the copper gold Miss Dior refillable natural spray (7.5ml) empty bottle was found at Helsinki Retro & Vintage Expo, deliver a beauty set accompany with Miss Dior. Dior nail polish Candy Cane #984 and 9 A.M. #881, both carrying purplish hues, are the lovely treatment from my long-term friend Soniya, definitely matching the peachy apricot tone of new Miss Dior. The golden mini paper bag is from Dior Monaco, while the backstage black version is the extra freebie from Dior Taipei, and the burgundy acetate sunglasses are my proud bargain at Bicester Village in Oxford Shire, England, in 2018. Dior represents the deluxe detour to the defined decades.

Special Thanks: Soniya
