ELLE USA December/January 25-26
And the Oscar on the Best Actress of the Leading Role 2026 goes to……
Jussie Buckley.
Born in December 1989 Killarney, Irish actress Jessie Buckley with musical background studied Shakespearean acting at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and first trod the boards in a production of The Tempest at the Globe Theatre. Her breakthrough role from HBO 2019 limited series drama Chernobyl to 2022 Alex Garland’s Men, Buckley has always been drawn to the language of Shakespeare the Bard, which, a question Buckley is interested in posing, not just through her roles, but increasingly through other modes of storytelling.
In 2025 Chloé Zhao’s adaptation of MAGGIE O'FARRELL's novel Hamnet, it was one of many subconscious moments that made it into her performance. One of the striking aspects of Hamnet is the way it shows how grief can isolate and divide the grieving. Performing William’s wife Agnes Shakespeare, Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal have vastly divergent ways of responding to tragedy and need to find their way back to each other. Jessie Berkeley masterfully portrays Agnes' humble yet radiant maternal role, from her rebellious nature, through the pain of childbirth until the loss of her beloved to the complex emotions of curiosity, confusion, astonishment, anger, listening, understanding, relief, and gratitude in the frame-in-frame scene at the Globe Theatre.
In 2026 springtime, Buckley is again collaborating with writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Bride!, a reimagined Frankenstein set in 1930s Chicago. On working with female directors back-to-back, it’s not been a conscious priority for Buckley, while the material and women’s singular language as directors have been the most seismically interesting.
Photographed by NATHANIEL GOLDBERG and styled by Alex White, Jessie Buckley on the cover shoot of ELLE USA December/January 25-26 issue is showcasing Ralph Lauren’s silk blouse, reddish scarf and high-waist shorts, with BVLGARI high jewelry and CALZEDONIA tights; as well LANVIN leather coat mixing and matching MIU MIU black dress and bra with PRADA shoes, the dark brunette cut allows Buckley a more of casual but yet still elegant oxford style of presence.
As the collective tones of ELLE USA December/January 25-26 Women in Hollywood issue Jessie Buckley cover playing between the bright red, the off-white and the bleak black, as well echoing Jessie Buckley’s CHANEL gown at the Academy Awards, N°1 De CHANEL Masque Revitalisant 50g, ROGUE ALLURE Velvet Lipstick 00:00 placed atop, while CHANEL Le Crayon Lévres lip pencil #184 Rouge Intense together with the lip pencil sharpener are displayed at bottom.
As I always love to complete the magazine photography by placing minimalistic rings to highlight the composition, besides my all-time favourite CHAO&EERO Bubble Ring Collection, I add up some surprising hunts from LORWEII PIER 2 ART CENTRE KAOHSIUNG designer’s markets, and with 25-26 holiday issue am pleased to read TEYANA TAYLOR, CHASE INFINITI, RENATE REINSVE, EMILY BLUNT or even JOE KEERY at every page turn.
